Although they have an equal and necessary shared area, a microgrid and an energy community are not the same thing.
A microgrid is an energy generation, management and consumption system, while an energy community is a group of people and/or public or private entities that constitute a group that is practically isolated from the general grid and that produce, manage and consume their own energy, generated by the microgrid. Therefore, an energy community is a concept that encompasses not just technical facets but many others, such as the social, legal or economic aspects.
